任天堂正式發表改良版 NDS 主機「Nintendo DS Lite」，預定 3 月 2 日在日本地區推出，定價16800 日圓（含稅）。

「Nintendo DS Lite」是現有 Nintendo DS 主機的小型化、輕量化改良款式，造型同樣採用蚌殼式的摺疊設計，可相容於GBA 與 NDS 遊戲，基本功能與現有 NDS 主機相同。根據任天堂方面表示，主機名稱中的Lite 字樣代表的是「輕巧」與「明亮」

NDS Lite 的尺寸為 133.0 x 73.9 x 21.5mm，比現有 NDS 的 148.7 x 84.7 x 28.9mm更為輕薄短小，重量也由原本的275 公克減小為 218 公克。基本操作的十字鈕、A B X Y L R 鈕的位置維持原本的配置，開始鈕與選擇鈕則移到右下方縱向排列，電源鈕、指示燈與麥克風的位置也有所調整。

除了小型化輕量化之外，NDS Lite 主機在液晶螢幕部分也特別加以強化，加入了4 階段的亮度調整功能，讓玩家可依照不同環境的不同需求來調整螢幕的亮度，預料將可以解決部分玩家對於現有NDS 主機螢幕亮度不足的不滿。至於液晶螢幕的尺寸是否隨著主機的小型化而有所縮減？目前尚不清楚。

NDS Lite 將定位為 NDS 的高階機種，因此價格將比現有 NDS 主機的 15000 日圓（含稅）稍高，為16800 日圓（含稅），預定 3 月 2 日推出，目前所公布的造型圖片是採白色配色，發售時將推出
3 種配色版本，SQUARE ENIX 知名動作 RPG 最新作《聖劍傳說 DS 瑪納之子（Children of Mana）》也預定於同日推出。對 NDS 有興趣但尚未購入的玩家，不妨可以多多留意這款新版NDS 主機的後續報導。
